Firstly, this post is not going to elaborate too much on the aspects that the railway Minister outlined in his annual budget. For me, i never have and will never understand the concept of the budget. This particular post is going to focus on two aspects that were outlined in this budget. The decision to adopt 2007-08 as the Railway Cleanliness Year and the Beefing up of the Security at various stations around the country.
The Railways have always been the lifeline of India for the past 154 years. The Railways is considered the most visible symbol of keeping the country as a whole. From Kannyakumari to Jammu Tawi and from Bhuj in Gujarat to Jorhat in Assam, the rail network in India is the most complex and vast network in the world. As a frequent traveller on the Railways, i am proud of this achievement. But, i cannot speak too highly of the cleanliness standard in the whole network. Barring only a fraction of the total trains, the majority of the trains have almost non-existant Hygiene. The network especially to the North and to the Central part is very poor indeed.
The announcements on the rail stationswould be that passengers should have a clean, safe and pleasent Journey. Sometimes, baaring the safe, the other two just dont come about. In very few trains, this can be achieved. The situation is bad in the sleeper class, with the people there following no standards of Hygiene. The dirt and the stink that envelopes the Sleeper bogies makes one's life there not so nice. This gets worse during the Summer time, with an increase in Travel for the vacations. The unhygienic conditions in the train have been the most complained about problem, and the railways are no closer to solving it. The situation is equally bad in the Air-Conditioned compartments as well.
The move to install CCTV's and Close circuit Camras on many prominent station is a very welcome move. In the North-east of th country, Militants there have often sabotaged the railways and have targetted rail installations there. This move will put a check to it, and then gradually make it safe for travel. With the blasts on the Mumbai Local Trains on 7/11, and the recent blast on the Samjhautha express have meant that Security is the necessity of the day. This might releive the RPF(Railway Protection Force), who have been inadequate in number to patrol the big stations.
But, each initiative has its own roadblocks. Trying to solve the Hygiene scenario for the Railwas is a painstaking job. The mentality of certain sections of the people are such that Unhygieniety for them is a way of life. If indeed once Hygiene is maintained, then the Sustainability becomes very difficult because of lack of enforcement and Apathy. Authorities will loose interest in trying to keep it Hygienic because the people are not following it. It is upto the people of the country to change their mindset and follow a Hygienic way of travel. This will benefit all those travelling the railways. Maintain Hygiene and sustaning it is upto the People and the People alone.
Security Bottlenecks will remain. In Dacoit infested areas of Eastern UP, Bihar and Jharkhand, security is almost non-existant. Recent incidences of Dacoity in Bihar will test the security proposal of the Rail Minister. Onw actually wonders as to why CCTVs in addition to being on the station cannot be installed in the Trains. Ensuring of the Security to the passengers is something which needs tremendous amount of following up by the authorities. Vigilance and Sustainability of the Initiative will make the Railways even better.

Powerless Citizens of Mumbai
I had mentioned several posts ago that i am not looking forward to coming to Mumbai because of a particular reason. The reason being of the long powercuts that the city has to face because of the shortage of power in the whole state of Maharashtra. Unfortunately, the power crisis is now so deep rooted that Citizens are starting to feel that Normal Power Supply might not be possible. The proof of that was on Sunday when a particular section of the Western Grid tripped over, and thus subjecting the people in the suburbs to an additional 3 hours. These are indeed Dark days for the people of Mumbai, and the tendency to take it silently is only adding to the woes.
The power mismanagement by the state government has resulted in large scale suffering for Suburban Mumbai, rather than the City itself. While the suburbs suffer a powercut between 3 to 9 hours, the city enjoys continuous power supply. Of course, Rumours are flying around that the City has no adequate and continuous Water supply, but that is a different story altogether. One wonders how will people in the Suburbs cope during the Hot, Humid and Unbearable Summer months of April and May.
Students are suffering more, because the powercuts are interfering with their preparations for the all important final exams. But, nobody will do anything about it. The Citizens will continue to remain silent, reminding themselvesd that this will be a temporary thing and that it lasts only for a certain time. How one would want a Change of Mindset! In this time of Modernity, one should have a mindset such as to speak out outrageously against this shortfall. The financial capital is groping with Dark Days, and yet people say that Mumbai is Vibrant and it is exciting. It is upto the people to step out of this darkness, so that they can shed light on this crisis

The Carnage of Godhra and the fight for Justice
In February 2002, the whole country witnessed an event of shame. It made people question the very fact of Expression of Religion. For many people, the state of Gujarat burned for close to one month, and it culminated in the GENOCIDE of more than thousand individuals of a particular community. The government suported the act, and even today the Chief Minister of Gujarat is considered a Demi-God by the majority. The carnage in Godhra showed us that Secularism is indeed dead and buried in this new India, and the fact that in India, a genocide has happened and sections of the Indian public do not want to acknowledge this. It is this event, and what happened in Ayodhya 10 years before this, made me into an Atheist, and thus writing that ALL forms of organized religion must be purged.
In the morning on the next day following the event, when the horrors unfolded, my instinctive burst of emotion was that, "I AM ASHAMED OF BEING A HINDU". At that time, there was a heated argument between Me and my Family, and i let it go because i was still young. Now, in 2007, i stand by what i have said. The carnage that was carried out by Extremist Hindu Organizations indeed made me sick, and thus made me an Atheist. The Godhra carnage continues to be called as the most shameful incident to affect India in the Post-Independence Era. The chaos, the fanatism, the carnage was there for everyone to see.
What began as a reaction to the burning of the Coach of Sabarmati express fanned the flames of Communalism throughout Gujarat. The Death of 58 Kar-sevaks travelling to Ayodhya all died in the fire, and in these riots more than 1000 muslims died. Some were lynched, others were burned, some were beaten to death, some were thrown out of their house, while some others were thrown into Ovens, to burn to death. The situation in Gujarat was almost similar to the mid-1930's and 40's Nazi Germany, in which Nazi Storm troopers targetted Jews and their property. In some instances, the local media added fuel to the communal fire, whereas the national English and Hindi print and Television media gave the balanced version. We must be thankful, perhaps, that most of the viewers watched the event Live on National Television, and hence the riots did not spread to the whole country. Media channels like NDTV and DD gave balanced versions of the story, and thus kept the social fabric of the nation intact.
The most symbolic event in this is the BEST Bakery case. Zaheera Sheikh, who was a witness to the burning of 21 Muslims by Mobs in the Bakery at Vadodara. The case was fought at the Highest courts of the country, and at that moment, Zaheera sheikh turned hostile and thus began the Mockery of the Judicial system, as well as denying Justice to the victims of the Genocide. She was paid 18 Lakhs by a BJP politician, and thu the reason for her becoming Hostile. Today, because of Dirty Communal politics and Greed, the victims of the Gujarat might have a tough road for Justice. I was reading a book titled "The Best of Tehelka-2", and following the material in the book, i was determined to write about this atrocity.
Genocide was taking place in front of millions, and yet some sections of society sought to give it Legitamacy. The Godhra Carnage is proof of the fact that Secularism is DEAD in India, and also that Organized religion is a roadblock for Prosperiety in India. The Godhra carnage is another reason why Groups like VHP, RSS and Bajrang Dal should be banned and punished. Inspite of Highlighting these flaws, the public might not care, unless another riot erupts. The Psyche of Indian Society almost degenerated on that fateful February of 2002, and this degeneration revealed the Horrors that was exhibited.
Yet, the Public will remain ignorant and communal, because that will be the way from now on. That will always be the Way now. What about us, who Cry for the Justice of the people who died in the Genocide? We will have nothing, only historical records and reminders, as well as images of the Gruesome tragedy. The Godhra carnage shows us what happens when the majority remain silent, and that Fanaticism shall always lead to blood and destruction. Gujarat today stands for the Ghettociation of Muslims, and even now the Majority Public are silent, because that will be the way from now on. That will always be the Way from now on.

The question of reality has always bothered mankind from the beginning of time. Today, the lines of Reality are blurred to such an extent that the human mind has conditioned itself to the fact of Multiple realities. Today, it is quiet fashionable to say that there is our truth and their truth.
I have come here to mumbai, the economic capital of the country. Life here is miles apart from the life that i live in Bhopal. Now, yesterday i had gone with my friends to a movie. After the movie was over, i just commented on the fact that how bad Mumbai has indeed become. The Traffic snarls, the electricity problem and the deteriorating infrastructure that the city is currently facing. They all rubbished my claims and came up with this statement that "Mumbai IS Mumbai". The life here is so fast paced and entertaining that they cannot even think about life outside of mumbai.
One of my other friends who had lived in Sangli for some time said that Sangli is as developed as Mumbai is, and that the development is certainly spreading to other parts of the state. Kolhapur, a state within Maharashtra, is considered to have the largest number of BMWs, if my friend is to be believed. All these bits of information, if indeed true represents twp things. One, the Media is not highlighting the positive side of the booming economy, or that the very factor of Multiple realities is being witnessed.
India and the Citizens are currently facing the problem of this Multiple realities as well the factor of Microcosm. The Urban people tend to view things within a Microcosm of the development of the Socio-economic factors. The rural hinterland unfortunately doesnt even have the vision for Microcosm, because Survival is the ultimate factor in their life.
In my previous posts, i had said that today there exists an India within an India. The interaction that i had with my friends yesterday is proof that the factor of Two Indias is visible, and the fact is that nobody wants to acknowledge it. The sad part is, like the factor of Multiple realities, it gets blurred. People who earn a living in Mumbai and have already established a life can easily say that Mumbai is booming, and that they dont care for what happens outside their sphere of Microcosm. I guess the same criteria of Multiple realities applies. In today's scenario in which we look at India, it might be safe to say that there is Our India and there is Their India.

Plight of Champions
This is normally reserved for my Sporting Blog. But, having watched the performance of the Australians today in the 3rd ODI at Hamilton, i am left wondering wether this is indeed the Australia that we saw in November or is this the team that all teams wanted for the past decade or so!!!!
Australia's loss today was the 5th straight loss and their 6th from 7 matches. Even more worrying for the Australians is that the last two matches have been lost in trying to defend huge totals. In the last one dayer, they lost in trying to defend 337, and in todays match they lost trying to defend 347. The Australians may perhaps get the tag of the worst defenders in modern day cricket. They lost to South Africa in March, and that time they could not even defend 434!!!!! This time, with the world cup approaching in March, the confidence of the Aussies is sure to be dented. This might bode well for the game, because it leaves the World Cup absolutely wide open.
In my previous posts somewhere in January, i had said that the Australian team is the best team on the planet. I will still maintain the fact that the Aussies are the best team still out there, but now they are beginning to assume a more Mortal form. This month has been absolutely bad for them, winning just 1 out of 7 matches. But, it is suicide to assume that the Australians can be destroyed. In the 1999 World Cup, Australia were down and out, but they fought hard and ultimately came back to win the cup. The Australians are still the favourites, but not the red hot favourites.

Derailment of the Peace Express
The strike has happened. This time the terrorists have targetted the most physical symbol of the India-Pakistan peace process. Explosions rocked the Samjhautha express, a bi-weekly train between Delhi and Lahore, killing 68 people and injuring more than 100. This time majority of the victims are Pakistani, but leaving aside this fact, the point is that Terrorists are determined to ensire that the peace process stagnates between India and Pakistan, and thus nullifying the peace process between the two countries.
Time and time again the terrorists have made several attempts to disrupt the peace process between the two countries. Their activities have increased post 9/11 as well as with the resumption of the peace process in 2004. The time has now come when Pakistan realizes that it too is a victim of their creation. The terrorists which were created with the false impression of trying to liberate Kashmir has now turned against them, and threatens their stability. The suicide Bomb explosion in Quetta 2 days ago as well other terror attacks in Karachi have been a constant reminder that Pakistan is also suffering from this backlash of terror.
The attacks on the Samjhautha express show the need for the Extermination of Terrorists as well as the other elements which sustain their existance. The solution to the Kashmir crisis is now simple. One or if acceptable both nations take actions leading to the end of the terrorists, then half of the Kashmir crisis is solved. Only then through active and complete participation in dialogue of all parties shall he fate of Kashmiris be realized. The main question now will be wether these nations can take action against the terror elements.
Will India finally be active on the terror front, now that two potentially deadly blasts have shaken up India? The 7/11 Train Bombings of Mumbai, the Malegaon attcks and now the Samjhautha express attack are an indication that terror elemnts want to destabilize India. If India does not take up an active role in elminating terror, then Terrorism will thrive, and will in the end destabilize the country.

It goes on and on and on..............................
The so-called News channels have done it again. The Hindi News channels in particular have shown us why the impact of Globalization is so negative as far as News content in India is concerned. We now rue the fact as to why Doordarshan, which was the Public Broadcaster during the 70's and the 80's not funded and managed properly. It was because of this lack of style and presentation which spelled disaster for Doordarshan. But, now the Indian public are subject to Infotainment Channels like India TV, Star News and all the other so called Tabloid Media.
The latest news being is that Saif Ali Khan was admitted to Lilavati hospital, and this was again considered BREAKING NEWS. In some channels, the BREAKING NEWS Part was flashing on the screen, replaying the whole event again and again. It even spoke in detail as to the guest list that had occured. Although, I should be thankful that the coverage did not go overboard and to nauseating limits when Amitabh Bachchan was ill. In fact, this again shows the hypocracy that Hindi News channels advocate, flashing and jazzing up all rubbish and giving certain actors their due sense of publicity. In fact, the same media coverage was relatively absent when the legendary Composer O.P.Nayyar had passed away. This legend, who had given so many Golden Jubilee song numbers from the 50's till the 90's was given just given a mention in One news channel, that too on a ticker.
This is not to say that Saif Ali Khan is mediocre or that he should not get coverage. He is a fine actor who indeed is a favourite among some sections of the public. His health is of concern to all of us, but my question is as to where do you draw the lines when it comes to covering a prominent personality and giving out real time, informative news. I guess, Entertainment will always test the true values of News, because Film Stars come under the public eye and anything that happens to them has to be covered by the media otherwise the people will abandon that News channel. Till that time, So-called Rubbish like Star News, India TV and Zee News will continue to rake in all the tabloid stuff, and silently kill of Informative News Broadcasting in India.

EPL Football: Whats the big deal all about?
The most prestigious football league in the whole world. The league that has captured the attention of billions in Asia, in particular in India. The EPL and its players are one of the most talked about in all of the major cities in India, and its popularity has grown over the years. But, having myself watched the EPL today, i am wondering as to what is all this talk all about? The EPL is not special, in fact it is so boring!!!!! Yes, you read it right. The EPL is the most boring football league in the world, as well as the most hyped around thing in the whole world. These are my arguments against the EPL.
Players who come into the English Premiere League come for the money part. In the EPL, the Advertisers might probably dominate over football, and even mediocre players are all bought out into the spotlight. More Prestigious clubs like the Bundesliga, Serie-A are were true footballing skills are exhibited. But, since, real football is considered too slow and boring, the EPL glitzes it up with a lot of analysis, and a better packaging of an otherwise poor product, as far as quality is concerned.
The main reason why the EPL is hyped up reflects in the performances of the English National team in the World Cups or other football events. The English Football team has always choked up on the big stage, notably in the World Cup, where their best performance has been winning the World Cup, way back in 1966!!! The Current English team is also not setting the football world on fire. Players like Frank Lampard, Theirry Henry, Michael Ballack all are considered the Gods of EPL, while on the National side their performances are worse than a second division team. The case to point out is Frank Lampard. In the 2006 edition in Germany, he had 31 attempts on goal, and he converted None of them. So, this is furthur proof that the EPL is just a hype, and nothing else.
I still cannot wonder why people in India choose to follow the EPL more ardently, rather than the Serie-A division, Bundesliga or even South American football. The reason given for lack of viewership for South American football lies in the fact that not many matches in South America are broadcast to the rest of the world. But, the other divisions are broadcasted to many countries. These leagues suffer from poor coverage, and are often seen as Dull and slow because of the commentary and the presentation of the package as a whole.
People in India seriously have to consider their thinking in adopting the EPL as the benchmark for developing the football in their own country. Since Sports Culture is absent in the country, the following of the EPL has ensured that Football of true Quality are kept out of the nation's Broadcasting waves. If the youth consider the EPL as the model for supposed success, then they have a reality check coming up. It is time to shun out Poor quality, and look somewhere else wherein Indian football can benefit. Let us stop Talking the Talk, and start Walking the Walk.

Trip to Mumbai
February 21st, I will be in Mumbai. The Dream City of India, the most Cosmopolitan and commercial city in India, the financial capital of the country now awaits me. After a gap of 4 months, i will be back in the city where i was born and nurtured. But, coming to mumbai, i do not get a good feeling. In fact, it is quiet the opposite. Call me weird or anything, but somehow I am just not looking forward to seeing Mumbai.
First and forall, the life of Mumbai is something that i have always wanted to speak against. The mechanized way of living is something that makes people forget about the good things that life has to offer. The other side of this vibrant and fast apced life is that it becomes too sressful, and at some point, individuals tend to lose direction with their life.
The infrastructure of the place is also crumbling. The landscape of the city has being tarnished by the ever growing slums and also the constant digging of roads. The traffic problem in the city is the most congested. Although Mumbai boasts of the best Transportation network in the whole country, it has a whole host of problems regarding Transport. If Roads are on the state of ruin, then the number of vehicles instead of decreasing go up by thousands. The resulting bottlenecks in Traffic result in the train network getting Jam packed beyond insanity.
The other problems of the place shall be discussed when i am there in the city. Mumbai boasts of the best food culture that is available, and the people are indeed warm and helpful. But, all of this is just small consolation compared to the whole host of problems the city is suffering from. But, I guess, the saying goes, "Something is better than Nothing". Maybe, this is the reason why People cannot hate Mumbai.

Fine Lines of Obscenity and Expression
Valntine's Day celebrations were carried out in the whole country today. Couples, both young and old, utilized this opportunity to express their love for each other and reaffirm their relationships. Unfortunately, this day of love had to confront obstacles like Moral Policing and in some instances violence.
Orthodox Hindu Groups have an agenda of ensuring that Valentine's day celebrations are not carried out. The threats this time were very serious and blunt, and in some places these groups did indulge in violence to disrupt this celebration. Their claims for disrupting this festival is that it undermies Indian Culture and its values. The influence of this Western Culture will elad to moral decadence, if these orthodox groups are to be believed. In some places in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, these groups have resorted to violence and have attacked some restaurants. Rumour has it that one young person is apparently in Hospital in Delhi resulting from the fracas by these groups during Valentine's Day.
These threats and violence have been constant for quiet some time now, and hence expressions of love and affection have to be confined and not expressed in public. The very freedom of expression is being upheld by a bunch of thugs, and it seems that the authorities are powerless to do anything about it. Under the guise of protecting the moral values of Indian society, these "Moral Police Officers" have backing from some conservative sections of society. Sometimes, the youth are in a dilemma wether they should express something beautiful out in the open or not.
The world has too few of love and more of hate in today's time. The question of Obscenity needs to be brought out here. Although there is a law against Obscenity in the Indian Penal Code, the very defination of Obscenity changes from time to time, place to place and more importantly from situation to situation. The lines of Obscenity and expression is indeed very thin. If looked at from a conservative and moralistic framework, expression of love is probably obscene, while it is the opposite in the case of a free thinking mind.
This has gone on for too long. The inability of society to speak out against the working of the so called Moral Police will not enable individuals to develop in life. I guess this inability might be due to the fact that Indian society is in a dilemma as to what is right and what is wriong when it comes to sensitive matters like this. Maybe, the remedies are silent suffering and the passage of time, but surely, the youth has to work this out by next year when similar incidences will occur. The question still remains: Can Indian Society speak out against Moral Policing?

Valentine's Day Poem
Tommorow is 14th February, the day that all young couples look forward to. It is Valentines Day, and on this day young couples reaffirm their love for each other or new couples begin their journey towards a committed relationship. However, for me, I am not going to witness all of this. For me, I have not yet found my better half and this poem is about a lonely boy who wants to understand this Love and this day in particular. Here are the lines of this brief Poem:
Tommorow is Valentine's Day,
Young couples hearts are full of Joy and Love.
Cupid's presence is there everywhere,
Couples experience love like never before.
Vows and promises are exchanged,
Couples reaffirm their love till the end of time,
That is what a friend of mine says about this day.
For him, his girl is more valuable than himself, so,
Couples experience love like never before.
But, I and my heart are lonesome on that day.
I do not know as to why it is like this,
I wonder if it is me or is it written, that
I will never fall in love with somebody.
All around, I see moral barriers in this expression.
People are going around trying to curb this wonderful feeling,
But I so much want to fall in love, perhaps I never will.
I can only watch and think as to when my time will come.
Cupid is perhaps turning a blind eye towards me,
there is a message here that nothing perhaps is simple in life.
Hence, i can only salute those couples who look forward to this day,
for they will understand the true meaning of spending their life.
I am born with patience, but i wonder wether i will run out of it soon.
Till then, i can only keep on asking the question,
wether I can fall in love with anybody,
on this wonderful occasion called Valentine's Day.
Tommorow is Valentine's Day,
Young couples hearts are full of Joy and Love.
Cupid's presence is there everywhere,
Couples experience love like never before.

Regional Chauvinism: Good or Bad????
This discussion on Regional Chauvinism has once again being bought into he spotlight by the Karnataka Bandh against the Cauvery Water Tribunal verdict. This kind of Regional Chauvinism is not new in India. In Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena has initiated the 'Mee Mumbaikar' Campaign, and also has highligted the so called plight of the Marathi community in Maharashtra. In Bengal, there were protests when Saurav Ganguly was dropped from the national Cricket team. In Gujarat, anybody who speaks out for the Narmada Bachao activists are made an enemy of the state; Aamir Khan will answer in the affirmative for this situation. In Tamil Nadu, there were Anti-Hindi protests in the 1960's and now Karnataka comes into the spotlight for the Cauvery Water tribunal as well as the solution to Belgaum. Hence, the question remains wether Regional Chauvinism is good or bad.
This situation was asked in a programme on CNN-IBN. The guests on this programme included prominent personalities from the media and historical backgrounds. The panel was off the unanimous opinion that Regional Chauvinism is good, as long as Violence is not involved. Maybe, these kind of protests should not be suppressed in a Democratic country like India. If the experts word on the programme are to be considerede, then suppressing it would result in fragmenting India, as it has happened in the case of Pakistan and threatening in the case of Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The position that I, an Ordinary Citizen would like to take on it is Lack thereoff. For the reason that the whole process is situational and also depends upon the magnitude and the intensity with which it affects the particular state. Of course, i spare no sympathies for the Shiv Sena, for they have always used violence in order to assert themselves. For me, the Shiv sena represents a far greater threat than the Islamic terrorists on the other side of the border. In the case of Bengal, it was a clear demonstration of reputation dominating Merit. But, as far as Karnataka is concerned, in my previous posts, i have said that Karnataka has indeed got the wrong side of the deal according to me. The basis on which water is allocated to states is just non-existant here in India. Here in India, where there is Diversity, Regional Chauvinism is perhaps part of the democratic setup, for without which the plight of the nation might not be known. The above cases might perhaps indicate that Regional Chauvinism by certain states could be India's unseen Unity. The other side perhaps could be that if this changes into Violence, then it undermines Unity.
So, in conclusion ,the main thing that Citizens of a diverse nation must realize that Violence will not achieve their goals. Fortunately, India being a Democracy, the path to solve such crisis might be through a judicious and interactivity among the several classes of Publics in the country.

Fate of Film Legends in India
Today I am intrigued by the interview that was conducted on Times Now. The programme Frankly speaking had a guest by the name of Naserruddin Shah. He is without a doubt a legend in Indian Theatre, Indian Parallel Cinema as well as in some commercial Cinema ventures. His most recent film titled Parzania talked about the life of a family in the riots that had struck Godhra in February 2002. His performances have been established as a benchmark, yet the generation of today considers other wannabes like Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and a whole host of other wannabe actors who consider themselves the real icons of this generation.
Let me tell you that I am not such a film buff, but i have watched a decent number of films to put my opinions regarding this topic. This has been exasperated by the fact that just yesterday i watched Dhoom 2. In all my life, i have never seen such a bizarre or a pathetic film like Dhoom 2. The way how the so called Perfect assassin dodges point blank bullets is just absolute rubbish. It is an action film, no doubt, and some stunts are quiet good, but it was simply overboard. The main reason for bringing up the thing on Dhoom 2 is that it is proof of the empty progress that Indian Cinema has supposedly taken.
Naserruddin Shah highlighted a brilliant point as far as technicality of Films are concerned. He said that Technicality does and WILL involve Story Telling, and looking at the present generation of films, they just are not technically correct. Wannabes like Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan are proof of this. Abhishek Bachchan is just here on the power of his Father's name. I have never ever understood how Abhishek Bachchan is made out to be a good actor. According to me, he just cannot act. I watched him in Sarkar, and believe me, the moments of which he is silent and is in thought, any other B-Grade star could have carried out the role easily than him. Even Hrithik, who is a good dancer and has looks, but otherwise not a good actor. Krrish was an extremely Juvenile film, and out of touch with the times. India had superheroes before, in the form of Shaktimaan, but Shaktimaan unfortunately did not have the weapon of Marketing working for him. Krrish was marketed and Advertised to the point of Nausea.
Even Mr.Amitabh Bachchan needs to take note. For me, watching BLACK, I have never seen a more insincere performance from Amitabh Bachchan than ever before. Nasseruddin Shah did mention that Mr.Bachchan had done good work before that, but he was just chewing up the scenery in the film. Even a lot of the acting of the blind by Rani Mukherjee was hammed up, i feel. Nasseer has set the benchmark when it comes to acting as a blind. In the Parallel Cinema film named Sparsh, he comes as a blind man, and his performances in that film are a bible for upcoming actors who want to pursue that kind of roles. It was a textbook Performance, one that has not even come close to being emulated.
The generation of today chooses Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan and a whole host of Glam girls as their icons and idols. The reasons for this are very unclear, for I have found nothing but despair in watching the so called icons mentioned above hamming it up. True Legends, who value and respect films for their Artistic pleasures are truly sidetracked by the Industry, and more predictably by Advertisers. The films of today lack a basic story, which is why perhaps they are not recognized abroad. That is why the world will remember a Satyajit Ray, who was indeed the Master of Story telling. Indian Cinema, may unfortunately never have a Satyajit Ray again, and we are committing he cardinal sin of ignoring true legends of Indian Cinema like Naserruddin Shah. The flip side of the coin is fortunately, there are actors who can make Acting an Art. Aamir Khan is one of the finest in this present generation who can make acting an Art. His film Rang De Basanti was a maverick creation and told a different story, although the approach was different. But, the young generation must realize that Films and Acting is an Art, not a spiced up Masala of confusion. It is Art, with all its simplicity, the only thing that it asks of people is to THINK and Enjoy.

The feeling of Depression
Life is considered to be full of ups and downs. One day you have the best time of your life, but the next day, it is filled with depression and sadness. That is what has happened today with me. But, i have to adher to the motto mentioned in the first line, because it is true.
The day after my birthday, today was not the right day. I could feel it the moment i got up. The sky was cloudy and stormy, on account of the hailstorms that had hit the city on the previous night. It was cold, cloudy and dull, the right atmosphere for a person to get depressed. I thought that in the evening, things would perk up, but it just went from bad to worse.
I am finding it difficult to organize my thoughts on account of this depression. But, i got a chance to observe within myself the feelings that I undego when I am sad or depressed. Maybe, with the varying nature of humans, it may vary. But, this is just a kind of picture that I am putting out and perhaps will be used to figure out how not to fall into it again.
The first thing is that my mind is completely blank. There are just no thoughts going into your mind, which perhaps affects your other senses. Because of the mind being completely blank, you are unable to talk it out. The urge or the feeling to talk is just absent momentarily. Hence, that is why perhaps people remain silent when they are sad. To accompany this sadness, it is this general tendency of the mind to settle into an isolating mode, and hence people remain reserved when they are depressed. That is why i feel that being sad indeed reduces your life span, because your mind ceases to function properly, thus affecting the other senses if not in the short run then in the long run.
But, this is something that our mind is condiioned for. It goes throught such phases, such is its incredibility. The silver lining in being sad is that perhaps when a New day comes, New ideas and New outlooks are subconsciously adopted, and we begin to function in a different way as we have been before. Maybe, that is the true meaning of ups and downs with life. The only thing that frustrates the human spirit is the time span of the Down and the Up. Possibly, tommorow might bring upon new change for me, but I just hope that the Down is not prolonged, at a time when my heart says that a lot of good things are on the way.

Fight for Water
Some time ago, my professor told me that India will be under Civil war in the coming 20 years. I did not take it seriously enough, considering the fact that economic development will drive people away from that mindset. The issue over which there would be a civil war according to her would be water. Now, looking at the recent developments over the Cauvery Water issue, I am not so sure anymore.
The Cauvery Water tribunal verdict has in many ways being viewed as unfair to Karnataka. The verdict, on the surface, clearly seems to favour Tamil Nadu. The verdict on this long standing dispute, almost for 17 years, raises the questions of other issues of Water sharing. After Cauvery, which will be the next river that will come into the scanner of sharing? And is the State slowly but surely moving on to a scenario wherein people start fighting for a drop of Water?
According to some experts, India is currently committing Hydrological suicide. The water management in this country is absolutely deplorable. This is not the first time that the plight of rivers in India has been bought into the forefront. The case of the Ganga, the largest river in the country, is one of survival. Scientists are estimating that the Ganga is dying, because of large scale and unchecked pollution from the industries. Very soon, they estimate that the Ganga might not even be rescued from pollution.
The verdict has thrown open a lot of questions to the general public? Under what circumstances is Water alloted to the state? Does it indeed look into the demands and the requirements of the states involved? Could the tribunal have adopted an equal sharing policy in this case? One thing is clear from all this though. The Cauvery water tribunal verdict might set of a Domino reaction in India, and the fight for the Waters of India might intensify in the coming decade or so. Perhaps, if nature doesnt cooperate and the scenario of drought comes in, then what was said today might unfortunately be the truth of tommorow

The rise of the Match Fixing Ghost
2000 was one of the Worst Cricketing years in History for the sport. From the time of its creation till that date, the sport was called the Gentleman's game, and was popular throughout the Asian Sub-Continent. But, in March 2000, the sport came under the Match-Fixing scandal, and from then on the game has been placed under intense scrutiny. From the time when Former South African Captain Hansie Cronje admitted to accepting bribes to influence the outcome of the match, the sport changed forever. The consequences were indeed dire, with Cricket stadiums the World over running empty in case of an International match. Fans were refusing to come to matches, and it would seem that the sport was on the death-bed. In India, the major market for Cricket, the annual Sports award did not have the Cricket category, and cricket players were all viewed with suspicion.
Following some swift and strict actions, the main culprits were identified and were banned from the sport. The game is now under intense scrutiny and players now have to swear on Oat to not fix matches. Now, with some new innovations and a strict Anti-Corruption Bureau in the Cricket world, the game is now back on track. New innovations like 20-20 Cricket, Powerplays have all made the game popular and are vying to capture the global market. The World Cup of 2007 is just around the corner, and this promises to be a carnival of fun for it is held in the beautiful and Sunny Caribbean. However, the ghost of Match Fixing has come back to haunt the game, and the timing could not have been worse.
Reports have now emerged that West Indian player Marlon Samuels allegedly leaked out team information and tried to influence the outcome of the recent India-West Indies match in Nagpur by unfair means. He collaborated with a Bookie and allegedly fixed the match in Nagpur. Unfortunaely, this is the second time that Nagpur has come into the Match fixing scenario, the first one being the infamous India-Souh Africa fixed series of 2000. There is a possibility that one more player from the West Indies could be involved.
Why do individuals fix matches? What makes them forget for an instance that they are Sportsmen and are role models for ordinary people? What makes them compromise with their conscience and their ethics for a price? The scenario of Money being everything in the life of a person is evident in this case. The lure of Money has resulted in the tarnishing of the Sportsmen, but more tragically of the Sports itself. The only way perhaps for this Match-fixing stain to go away rests in the sportsmen itself. Till then, more events will follow, so the time now calls for absolute vigilance and scrutiny.

Rising India: What the Hell???????????
Firstly, this post must not be interpreted as something against India. I am proud of being a citizen of India. The people of India are one of the most refined bunch in the world. India does have a lot of good things, and they are rightly because of the people in the country. But, sometimes, the public can be misled into a false sense of security, and this can go against them. I was just going through www.ibnlive.com and their campaign of the Rising India. It is a celebration of India's achievements in the 60 years ever since Independence. I am perplexed by this campaign, for there were similar campaigns done about three years ago, and the public and moresoever the Media rejected it.
For me, the ordinary Citizen, I cannot see what is the distinction between the 'India Shining Campaign' by the BJP in 2003 and the current campaign of the News Channels like CNN-IBN and Times Now campaign of 'Rising India'. Is the media taking us the public for a ride? Who should we believe and can we believe that India is a superpower to be reckoned with? The economic estimates are that India's growth is going to be about 9.2% in this fiscal year, and that in the next decade, India will be a power equivalent to the US and China. India has made rapid strides even in diplomacy, with the signing of the Landmark Indo-US nuclear deal, thus enabling India to join the Nuclear club and thus bring forth the nuclear age here. Indians everywhere are making big strides, may it be Laxmi Mittal's Arcelor bid, Tata's Corus deal or Pepsico Chairman Indra Nooyi and Astronaut Sunita Williams. Certainly, looking back at things 20 years, things may seem better on the surface now, but there are problems plentifold that the country faces.
India and the Elite layers in the country have a tendency to sweep all the dust (problems) underneath the Carpet (Ignorance). The same thing is what will lead to the stagnation of the country. The Media blasted the India Shining campaign into bits, now I, the ordinary Citizen, am ripping apart the Rising India campaign. How on earth can India be a superpower when there is a clear presence of Two Indias? This was the same argument used against the India shining campaign in 2003. The situation, if it has not changed, has only become more visible this time. So, now where is the Media vigilance on the situation in the heartland of the country?
If India is a country made up of only the coastal sections, then it is definately booming. But, in the heartland of the country, things are on the verge of collapse. Farmer suicides continue inspite of both these campaigns. This is a clear indication that the peasent Agriculture base in the country is on the verge of disintegration. The blowback to all this leads to the formation of the Red Corridor. The Naxal menace continues to plague the interiors, with the Corridor, stretching from Andhra Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh. When the situation there is desperate, how can the Media say that India is rising?
Incidences like Nithari have exposed the inefficiency of the Law process. I am still very pessimistic about the Justice system in this country, for it can only be sorted by Media activism, and that too if the victim is a high profile celebrity. With a defunct Law process and a still slow Justice system, how can India be rising or shining? Indian psyche in most sections of society is dangeroulsy leaning into Communalism. The prospects of a riot between Hindus and Muslims loom ever so close, and with this scenario on, things look grim for the social facbric of this nation. Renegade elements within society can use communication technology to their advantage and spread Propoganda around, which will make this extremely counter productive.
In the end, it is upto we the Citizens to ensure that India indeed rises. For, in this case, we cannot shy away from the problems that are facing this country. The Media can be in the mood for False Campaigns like India Rising, because for them the prosperiety is ever so visible. Maybe, their India is really Rising, for the situation here in Bharat is that the Sun is setting on them, and they are helpless. I guess the elite have accepted that there is an India within India, for there is enthusiasm for the India Rising Campaign.

I am Back
First and Foremost, i do apologize for not writing for about a week. A lot has happened in this week, both bad and good. I shall just elaborate upon it in detail and continue to write on issues on a national as well as at a personal level.
On the personal level, it has been mixed. The good news is that i have passed my driving test, and finally i have the licence to drive a car on the street, one of the better things that i have always wanted. With a special event on the horizon, things are better. I will drive a car in the most beautiful city in India, but it is also the most dangerous. Bhopal's road system is indeed very dangerous, with Pedestrians, Police and vehicles not following any rule whatsoever. My eyes wil have to be extra alert, for an impending disaster might just be around the corner. But, the thrill that will be there when i drive along the most poshest and neatest road in the city will finally come. I am really awaiting the day when i can do that.
Now, the bad news. There has been a recurrence of an allergic reaction around my mouth and Jaw. It has all become red and has swollen up to such proportions that my face is being disfigured. I am unable to eat properly, because of the pain that i encounter when i open my mouth. I am just wondering how long will this thing continue, and this fear is there everytime my skin becomes Dry. The impression that everybody gets is that Who has set my face on Fire!!!!! It looks as if somebody has burnt it.
Overall, i am looking forward to being back, and i hope to start writing on this blog as well as the sporting blog tommorow, for most importantly, maintaining the quality in one skill is important. I once again hope that i do not have to fight the demons of Boredom, for it would really be tragic.
