Thou shalt respect Parents

Parents are larger than life figures. They are the path upon which children grow up and mature into adults. They prepare them for the challenges in the cruel world outside. Parents give their blood and sweat for children to go ahead in life. With all these functions and much more, they should indeed be considered holy figures, worthy of worship. But, now, the conditions around society have changed. People have become practical, and are now starting to think of parents as a ladder to their path, thus ignoring them and also many times insulting and making them cry.

I am normally not a fan of Amitabh Bachchan, but i have tremendous respect for the film that he acted in. Baghban, is a film, about relationships and the conflict between the older generation and the newer generation. To furthur my mood about respecting parents, i stumbled upon another film of the 80's named Avatar. Even in that, Rajesh Khanna struggles in old life and is ignored by his sons, who leave him and put him in a very pitiable state. Both these films reassert one thing, the newer generation is ignoring their parents, and branching out in a way that is hurtful to their parents.

There is a very important message for me as well as for the younger generation. Only if you give unconditional and true love, only then can true happiness be realized. If you give Parents the love and the duty that they sought after unconditionally, only then can individuals experience True Bliss. Mr. Bachchan says rightfully in this film that, "Parents are not like a ladder, but they are like the roots of a tree. The tree can grow as much as it wants, but it cannot grow without the roots". I guess, no explanation is needed for this, because it speaks for itself.

He also says a very prophetic statement. He says that even the newer generation will become old one day. What the old have experienced today, the new generation when they reach that time will also experience. Why is it that the Younger Generation cannot put their mind in the Older generation's position? Is it because the younger generation is obsessed with building avenues for their own growth? Is it because of the fact that it is this very practicality that results in breaking up of relationships? The answer could very well be YES to all of it.

Today, under the garb of high cost of living and the value of money, Parents are abandoned and are left lonely in a old age home to die. The conflict between Practical thinking and Love is being highlighted in this plight. One thing is very clear, to grow Old is indeed a curse anywhere, because people start to count your time. The old, unfortunately, are made to realize that in this world, they too have to be self-sufficient and hardworking to create an identity for themselves. Such is the cruelty of the world today.

If respect and endless love is given, only then can generations live in harmony. Understanding and knowing the roots is one way to live, but i wonder whether we are overawed by the wider picture. The wider picture suggests practicality and breaking of relationships to go ahead. Very few people manage to achieve a balance. I only hope i can come in that group of few. A simple realization is possible, and this should be imprinted on my mind and heart forever. Parents are everything to you, without them, you can neither live or be happy. Duty and endless amount of unconditional love will make them happy forever.

Who am I?

This question has gripped us from the very beginning of time. We, try and establish a path to find out what we are and what are we really. Some view us in a different light, others view us some other way. Self Introspection is carried out, while some third person gives a character certificate on others. But, in spite of all that, i feel that we still don't know who we are. Here's a short and brief explanation of this concept.

What am I?
An individual, a success story,
A caring soul, a shrewd and cunning person,
A friend, a soul mate, a failure, a lover.
I still do not know who I am.

Who am I?
In this world, where do i stand?
Do i stand on the mountain, on the ground,
On top of the world, In the high heavens or in the lowest Pit.
Am I someone, or am I no one?

How am I?
A success, a Failure, friendly,
Evil, Pure Heart, Selfish, Jealous;
I do not know how am I,
because there is no introspection .

People define me, and so do others.
Self definition would be termed egoistic,
Boasting about myself would mean being Over smart,
But what am i supposed to do?

Why don't people let me be who i am?
Why should morals tie me down?
Can i be my own worthy judge or be judged by others,
Perhaps this is the way from now.

It is because of this that i don't know who i am.
Everybody else defines me,
but deep in my heart, i still ponder,
as to who am I or what am I.

gazing deep down into my heart,
i search for an Answer, but can't find any.
I encounter confusion and conflict,
maybe because i am made up of that only,
and nothing else, nothing else.

Awaken India

I have written something on this topic quiet a few times. But, i cannot help repeat it time and again. I only do this because i believe my nation should rise beyond the so called powers of the world and hold her own. But, my nation is confronting Apathy and bottlenecks in several of her Citizen activities. Lack of will as well as self importance is going to lead to chronic problems in this nation.

Once again, the feeling of this Apathy has been highlighted after watching Rang De Basanti. Truly, a path breaking Indian film, which highlights the dangers of Apathy and will. To add a backgrounder to his, i am reading Jawaharlal Nehru's discovery of India. Both deal with colonialism and its impact upon India. The British ruined us and almost crippled us in their years of Imperialism. But, fortunately, there was an enlightened group of Revolutionaries who cared for this nation. To juxtapose this in today's time, Democracy and Dictatorship has a fine line. Democracy degenerates into Dictatorship if the Citizens stop caring about the working of the nation.

All the revolutionaries and ordinary people who underwent torture at the hands of the British in jail during colonial times had a goal. They strengthened their mind to overcome the pains inflicted on their body. The conscience of these individuals was clear and unwavering, and that made them immortal. Let us now forget the political cloak that they wore. Socialist, Pacifist, Radical, Communist, Religious people, all during pre-Independence, played their part in pulling the nation out of troubled times. Men like Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi and other revolutionaries were there for India. In today's time, who is there?

This frightening aspect has not been looked upon. Who can help this nation if democracy degenerates into a Police state? The Media are neutral, because it is their fundamental principal to make people informed. Nobody should expect the Media to bring about the wings of change. The Political Process can only be strengthened if there is active participation of people, whose conscience is clear and whose will is resolute beyond measure. Politics is a very tough field, and people who get into it are indeed brave as well as worthy.

The last statement in short means that this is the era of the common man. Leaders and other influential people can only work if the common man helps them out in the decision making and implementation. It is seen in the Business realm as well as in Capitalist times of today. The worker gives shape to the product, whereas the influential managers implement the product to good use, and ultimately highlights their functions. So, to put it in the social parameter, the common man must shatter Apathy so that the nation can proceed ahead.

In the Pre-Independent era, Leaders emerged who took on the British head on. But, in today's times, Individuals should not look at Leaders to bail them out of trouble. They should rely on One thing only. The Power of INFORMATION. Today, if a person is well-informed, he stands out of the pack. Leaders are made because they are well informed and have a grasp of things around them and on a wider scale. Citizens need to possess Information at any cost, and in Hindsight, this is not at all difficult.

This age is not called Technological age for nothing. Citizens today are armed with several Technologies that bring information right at their doorsteps. World Wide Web has penetrated majority of the Citizen's household, and hence they are just a click away for the information that they seek. The thing that makes Information potent is taking action. For this, the factor of Apathy has to be shattered. If Apathy is shattered, then Vigilance and Accountability have to be undertaken.

This involves the question of the mind as well as that of will. Citizens of this age need to have a resolute mind and a firm conscience. To add to this, a strong knowledge of what is right will give boost to this. This could perhaps be the formula for eliminating Corruption in the country and to usher in Transparency in democratic institutions.

ELIMINATION OF CORRUPTION AND BRINGING IN ACCOUNTABILITY= CITIZEN COLLECTION OF INFORMATION ON ISSUES*NUMBER OF CITIZENS+ EXECUTING INFORMATION WITH AWARENESS TO MASSES+ BUILDING PATHS BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND DEMOCRATIC FOUNDATION+ CONSTANT CITIZEN VIGILANCE* MEDIA.

This is by no means a perfect formula. It may have ignored several factors of social and economic dynamics, but as it involves vigilance and accountability, it promises some success. But, i shout it out and say it again, India and the people can rise only and only if India first Awakens. Shattering Apathy as well ushering in the Vigilance revolution can bring about change. A clear conscience about what is right is necessary in order to avoid being caught in the Crossroad of events. A firm stand by Ordinary men, with strength in numbers will lead to the Perfect Democracy.

The Plight of association

A dangerous event has occurred after the failed terror plot in Glasgow. One person has in particular borne the brunt of this, and that too when he was in a place far away from the actual site of the attack. Dr.Mohammed Haneef, the Indian Doctor detained in Australia, now is in the middle of the fight between Terrorism laws and Civil Liberties on individuals.

This also throws up the fact that even mere association with Terrorists, without the persons knowledge, is indeed fatal. The specter of Mistrust now surely grows between individuals of varied nationalities in a foreign place. Never before have people been openly divided about the strictness of Terrorism law in Australia and the question of Civil Liberties.

Two things can be assumed, although they will change when events in the coming weeks unfold. One, is Australia in the grip of Islamophobia? Did Dr. Haneef really fail a character test? Or, more dangerously, has he been made a scapegoat just because he is a Muslim and that he knew the people who planned the Glasgow attack?

The last part is perhaps not the case, but it is hard to imagine Dr. Haneef as a radical. In an Interview during his ongoing trial, he said that Jihad is a struggle of life, and that he is NOT a Radical. Many terrorists who have been captured openly declare that they are doing this in service to the Almighty and that they have an Agenda. But, perhaps, this is the classic case of Dr. Haneef being at the Wrong place, at the Wrong time.

Australia, like the United States, is a land of immigrants. But, their Immigration and their Terror laws are so strict, that sometimes Civil Liberties are compromise. Whats more, unfortunately, many government spokespersons in Australia have endorsed Dr. Haneef's detention and that they are talking about deportation. I guess Australia's terror law is not biased maybe, because an Australian Al-Qaeda supporter also got the same treatment at Guantanamo Bay and subsequently in Australia as well.

If Dr. Haneef secures freedom, then can he survive in this world that has changed rapidly for him? People will now shun him as a terrorist, and further many people from all strands of society may view him with Suspicion. The torture that he will undergo in his 23 hour per day Solitary confinement might be nothing when he is free. The stigma of terrorism will stay on his head, and that gives us more reason to eliminate Terror from the Map.

Not getting Associated with Terrorists is easier said than done. Because a terrorist could be your plainclothes Friend, Doctor, neighbor or anybody. To avoid even getting associated with any of these people needs the seeds of mistrust to be sown, and a terror attack by a particular community does that. Mistrust and complete isolation from Society will encourage terror, and with Glasgow, those seeds might perhaps bear fruit in the coming months.

The Cold Reception

If I was going abroad for studying 6-7 years ago, my family would have considered it a privilege. At that time, if one had the credentials of going abroad and getting a degree, then his career and life in his homeland was secure for long periods of time. But, now, post September 11th, the world has gotten to be a dangerous place to live in. Our own homes are not safe with this threat called Terrorism. As I write, terror attacks in London and Glasgow have taken place, but fortunately, it failed. These attacks will be more remembered by the Indian People, because it involved the work of several young Indian Doctors.

Al-Qaeda has said that Those who cure people will also kill the people. The work of the Indian Doctors in that attack at Glasgow will have repercussions for majority of the Indians who want to study in the UK. As i had discussed in previous posts, the factor of paranoia and stereotyping prevails in Western Society. It goes overboard sometimes with a terror attack. Now, South Asian nations as well as Middle Eastern nations are viewed with suspicion, and thus tension is increased.

I am going to the UK in about a month's time. In normal times, i would get a warm reception. But, when i go this time, i wonder if I will be shown a cold shoulder by many people on arrival. Although, i could very well be wrong, but it is better to fall back upon this mindset so that your minds guards against Alienation and perhaps even to some extent isolation. I will dread the time when people in the UK look to me and say, "Oh! Here comes another Bloody Indian".

The last statement is something which will hurt more. We go there with the thought that Western Societies are liberal in nature, but it hits us with a fury which makes us wonder of how this liberalism can easily degenerate into Ignorance, Isolation and violence. But, i am caught with the reminder also that the people might not treat me all that badly, because all people are not bad. Good times do beckon for me in the UK, but i have to be careful and also be confident with myself.

The Cold reception is one nobody wants, but it is unfortunately wrapped around the dirty cloak of Terrorism and its agents. Perhaps, unfortunately, it is this very cold reception which might sow the seeds of fanatical behavior. However, if one respects Tranquility and Law, then he shall be treated as every normal individual is treated. Positive Attitude and confidence are the Keys, and it is upto individuals to respect this and be a model citizen of any country.

The Commandments in the UK

No, this is not Moses being replayed again. These are a certain set of rules that i am going to prescribe for myself during my conduct in the UK. These rules involve some of my own, some of my friends as well as some of my dear ones as well.

1) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall not indulge in anything that shall ruin the name and dignity of my family. I will not get into activities that shall ruin my reputation as well my families, and if possible of the whole community.

2) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall work hard to get ahead in the future. My Parents have put in their hard earned money to get me where i want to be. It is upto me to ensure that their money and their wishes shall not go down the drain. Every cent that my family put in shall be utilized to goodness and not indulge in unnecessary materials.

3) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall not think of ways by which my country will come in a bad light. Both the country of my birth as well as the country of my stay shall be treated with greatness and also Patriotically. Full attempt shall be made in trying to become part of a model citizen.

4) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall shed all Inhibitions and childishness. Although, very difficult to make this change overnight, i shall put my heart and soul into becoming serious at what i do and also stay ahead of the rest. I shall uphold dignity with people whom i interact, and show no behaviour which shall embarass them in front of others.

5) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall read, read and get myself updated everyday in the UK. I shall pursue to stay ahead among everybody with reagrds to information and events. I shall also think and penetrate deeply into the thoughts and writings of other Journalists.

6) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall treat this trip to the UK like a new beginning, and be serious of the work that i have come to do. This trip is the stepping stone where in I start to earn and ease the burdens of my family. This trip will determine wether i am an Adult or a failure.

7) I, Siddharth Vishwanathan, shall manage my finances to the threadbare. Never shall I indulge in overspending and being in debt. I shall make the fullest of efforts to save money, because no strain shall be put on my parents.

These are the 7 rules that i have prescribed for myself. I will add patience and balanced attitude as furthur extensions to the rules. Also, the factor of treating all individuals as equal is also paramount on the list. The crucial thing will be to execute these rules of theory into practice, and show that I am a MAN

It is the final countdown

The phase of time that people dread has come about. I am into the final month of my stay here in India, and it is at that time that i have to say goodbye to family and my friends all over. The life that i will begin is new, and everyday that preceeds that new life will be a test of my character and my resolve.

The thing that i am experiencing in my mind at the moment is blankness, because i cannot feel at that moment. It hits me only later. Perhaps this is something that i alone am facing, but i am quiet certain that many guys feel the same thing as i am. The feeling of blankness at that moment, and that sudden surge of emotion when you have realized it.

For all the things that are going on, i am begining to wonder wether i will write my next post in the UK. My concept of the wonder years is fast fading out, because i do not seem to bear a definitive vision of what i should write. This is the first time that it is happening to me, because i have incidents, but there seems to be no clear flow. Incidences have taken place and has shaped aspects of my life. Perhaps, i may have to rename the title as the cliched best and worst moments of my life.

I see that is the extent that i am allowing my creative juices to flow, but i guess simplicity is the basic essence of life, and to wrap it in complex overtones may not be right. But, i really need to write something about my time, because i can make sure that i am versatile in whatever i write. There is no difficult a stage to begin with than with your own life.

I guess i am also overcome by apprehension, and furthur complexity when i arrive in UK. The failed terror plot at Glasgow and London was enough for my parents to get apprehensive. I know that they are on edge, and it is wrong, but begrudgingly they are also right to feel that way, as a parent.

By putting myself in other shoes, i guess i will be always be back to square one. I do not move forward nor back, because of the balancing act that i am indulging it. But, perhaps, you are comfortable with whatver i indulge in. How will my personality and my outlook change? I guess when i constantly update things on my blog, things could be smooth. But, will this culture shock change me for the worse and drag my image down in front of near and dear ones? I guess only time can figure it out.

The Idiot Box and the Idiots

Today, i really have to vent out my frustration at the Idiot Box. A revolutionary creation of the 50's, Television has really occupied the majority of people's lives. Nowadays, people cannot even think of a day without television. Sports, News, Entertainment, Music and several other genres occupy the Bulk of Television time, which is nowadays 24/7/365. But, if one dwells into the content that is coming out on Television, we wonder as to why this is called the Idiot Box. With the growth in the economy, Television has expanded like never before. Penetration of Television has touched billions, and now with Satellite Television making inroads, we wonder as to what can the next development be.

Penetration of Television to the remotest of areas is indeed welcome, but one also needs to look at the content that is played on the Tube. Unfortunately, nothing flattering can be written about the content that is shown on TV. From Voyareustic News channels to Stereotypical Soap Operas, Television has made certain sections of the population Idiots, because these things are created taking into account their likes.

The main problem for the Cheap and crap content that is put out on Television comes from he Soap Operas. They have created such a stereotype of Indian Society that one wonders as to the existence of such things. The grandeur, style, message and the glossy production cannot hide the fact that here is a strong message of Conservatism and the adherence to the Joint Family system. The Woman in particular are shown in a very different and negative light. At the same time, the woman is caricatured to be the epitome of perfection, like wearing a Sari, putting on the Forehead Sindhoor at all times is one of the many problematic visuals that Television puts out. The bad news here is that many audiences of the Middle Class and the upper middle class conduct parallels with their own lives.

The other problem comes in the form of certain music and comedy game shows that are put out on TV channels. In particular, i would like to mention the programes 'Indian Idol' and the 'Great Indian Laughter challenge'. Both these shows are testament to the fact that there is no scope for hard work, Creativity and Talent. Now, in the platform of Television and the so-called SMS Audience Power, any person can become an Indian Idol and have his 15 minutes of fame under the Sun. They later on Fade away, and more of this is repeated. Gone are those days, when True Talent was being spotted and were made to work hard. The songs that were put out by certain artists of the 50's, 60's and the 70's still stand out today. Asha Bhonsale, Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar all became legends out of their own hard work. Today, not a single song lasts for more than 6 months, and some new person comes out and fills up the thrash that already exists in the Indian Music of today.

The Great Indian Laughter challenge is a death knell for Creativity here. The comedy that comes out of many participants are cheap and not at all funny. In fact, i think that the Audience are laughing because they have nothing else to laugh about. True, Witty and Intelligent Comedy are dying out, and it doesn't look like this will be revived in the coming times.

The News channels, more notably the Hindi News Media, have indeed become channels for Voyauerism and Infotainment. What bothers the nation is of no ultimate importance, but personal incidences become breaking news for long periods and dominate the Airways. Serious content is blocked out, because the people are more interested in the gossip and scandal of personal events as well as of society itself. These Voyareustic media provide such a platform, and thus the people who watch these channels have already being Dumbed down to the level of Idiots.

To add to all this, Advertisers rake in more and more of the Money, at the expense of People's mind. In a one hour show of Indian Idol, 30-35 minutes are filled with Advertisements. These infotainment channels have been created to rake up the Advertising Money, because they wont focus on serious issues. By giving Breaking News status to anything scandalous in personal lives, entertainment, they cater to the audiences desire for gossip.

Walter Lippmann in his book Public Opinion has said that "Men Trusted the Pictures in their Head". This statement can be applied to the Television scenario of nations today. People are glued to the television set, believing in the pictures that they see, as well as forming their opinion upon it. The Idiot Box has made people Idiots, and Lippmann's prophecy has come true. I guess this will stay for a long time, and there seems to be no end in sight.

The Terror effect on Stereotyping

This is the second biggest threat to mankind after the AIDS Virus. Both are fatal, because it destroys both the mind and the body of individuals. The AIDS Virus attacks from the inside, whereas Terrorists attack in the open and sometimes behind hidden doors. Both also have the dubious distinction of creating stereotypes. Terrorism is increasing the pace of Stereotyping in the west, thus destroying the liberal philosophy of the west, and plunging them into the depths of ignorance. The AIDS Virus ostracizes the individual from society, thus setting dangerous precedents.

This post is going to be about the terror effect on the factor of stereotyping. In countries of the EU, Britain and in the US, certain communities are victims. If a terrorist belongs to that particular community and has committed an act of terror, then the entire community in that particular country is looked upon as a threat. This has come into the spotlight following the failed suicide attack at Glasgow airport.

Indians who reside in the UK now have to face a tough time now. Already, the anniversary of the 7/7 Train Bombings is fresh on the British publics mind, and following Gordon Brown's first days in office, these terror attacks will only keep the social fabric of the nation on tenterhooks. Already, following the aftermath of the Glasgow attack, hate Graffiti was sprayed on the walls in Liverpool against the Pakistani community. The policy of immigration, which is already strict, will be monitored even more closely from now on.

One wonders as to why whole communities have to face the brunt by one man's senseless activity. We are seeing a kind of paranoia that has engulfed the West following the events of September 11th. Now, everybody, from the middle east to the sub-continent are viewed with suspicion and with hatred. Of course, media coverage of repeated terror attacks by Islamic militants has also not helped the image of people from the Middle East. They are caught in a double edged sword, because it is this absolute Paranoia that leads to stereotyping.

I guess looking at the socio-economic and cultural setup of the West, it wont be surprising of their tendency to stereotype. What it also shows is that Paranoia can lead to the highest literate individual succumbing to ignorance and suspicion. The very nature of Paranoia is such, and that is why terrorism is so dangerous, because it affects the mind to think in ways which can be detrimental. Just like the AIDS Virus, the specter of Terrorism is going to continue, because by its nature it is so complex. To destroy a particular thing, a weakness must be spotted. But, unfortunately, in this case, the weakness cannot be spotted. So, for the time being, immigrants living on foreign soil will have to endure more tough times, and prolong the hope that a solution can come about.

The role of the media

This is something which has come to my attention during the last couple of weeks. As a media student, and a future Media person, i should understand the functioning of the media more than the common man. However, events of the last month or so have made me confused as to whether the media is doing its job, or are they losing the plot somewhere? Many people living abroad have said that the media portrays in excess the negative things about a nation, thus damaging its reputation.

Such a topic is filled with controversy, and a lot of backtracking. Notably, in the field of Politics, environment and the Film circle, this debate is more pronounced. Everybody, in particular in India, knows that Politics is nothing but the gutter, and that All the politicians are corrupt. But, it is the media which is focusing only on the Scams and the corrupt practices of elected representatives. Such saturation coverage of the negative aspect of the politician has made generations of people shy away from Politics. This negative portrayal of politics spills out in to the coverage of events that affect society at large. Although justified, it gives a wrong yardstick to judge the societal condition at that time

In this case, People's mentality is to be blamed. Their conditioning is such that the mind will be alert to Bad news, and they will be very quick to give in their opinion. Sitting on the casting couch, they can pass of the character judgment of the politician and dismiss his statements and his stance. Maybe, this is what Politicians deserve, but at the same time, it is not warranted. The common man does not understand the kind of Pressures and hectic activity that the politician does. It takes a lot of guts to become a politician, because no individual will easily put up his hand for social service.

If people can balance their negativity with the reality of what Politicians ALSO initiate, than perhaps there can be better growth of Democracy in the country. If Transparency and Balance come into the minds of people, only then shall a nation function as a smooth one. The media, just as they conditioned generations regarding the negativity of politics, must now also take steps to show the positive side also, and people must oblige, failing to which this system might stagnate, and it could sow the seeds of Anarchy.

In the environment, the monsoon deluge has hit the metro cities of India. The rains have bought life to a standstill, and people and infrastructure have been affected. The media has highlighted all of this, and it has provided Citizens with important information and ways to ensure their safety. But, perhaps, they have been a little unfair to the municipal authorities of not doing their work.

This could be a controversial statement, because after all the Municipal Corporation has been established to ensure people's life is not paralyzed in the wake of some civic or natural problem. But, perhaps, when nature wreaks such havoc, perhaps even the toughest of vigilance may not be enough. After all, Municipal Corporations have to manage a wide area and ensure the smooth functioning of all Civic apparatuses. To do this sometimes is very difficult, because each area is so different from the others. Therefore, i feel that how much ever the Municipal authorities try, they may come second best to Nature's fury. I guess, the role of the media here is very difficult to outline, because the very nature of disaster is chaotic.

Today, i had gone to a food festival. I saw many Foreigners and the local Media were clicking away the activities taking place in the festival. It was however distressing that the media personnel were photographing the Foreigners more than the locals, and the foreigners seemed to enjoy the limelight. This bought out the fact, that Indians trip head over heels to satisfy Foreigners, especially those of the west, while these foreigners may never do the same to us in their land. It shows the fascination that the Indians have for White skinned foreigners, and i do not understand it. Granted, let them be treated well, but not to an extent as to avoid the local population.

A Legend had arrived in the hotel, but nobody noticed him, in fact nobody even recognized him. My well informed sources told me that the old man who entered was Habib Tanvir. This guy has been behind the creation of film geniuses like Naserruddin Shah, Irfan Khan, Makrand Deshpande and others. Prithvi Theater, and all those who came out of it, worship him as an Idol. He has even collaborated with Munshi Premchand, the greatest ever Hindi writer. He has taken some of Premchand's work and made it into Plays in Theater.

I have often wondered with Sadness that how the media promotes wannabes in films and not take note of such geniuses like Habib Tanvir. I guess geniuses do not crave for Publicity, because it goes against their set of principles. But, at least, they should get acknowledged for their contribution. Instead, wannabes like the Bachchans, Kapoors get saturation coverage, thus overshadowing true value works. This says a lot of Indian Cinema. Many say it is booming, but i view it as something which is nothing but over hype, stagnation and something which contributes to Crap and Thrash Culture.

I guess many people may want the Media to just go away. But, Information is crucial. The problem that i have written about in this post is that there is a too much leaning on the negative aspects of life, Society and Politics. I cannot give the answers to all of this, because as mentioned in the previous topic, the lines are blurred

Good, Bad and ..........................

This is the fundamental problem that humans have. What do they define as right and wrong? I have said often that due to the dynamics of social setups in this age, the lines of right and wrong are blurred. Many people are at conflict with this scenario, and it reappears time and time again when we deal with family, at work, with society, and to a broader extent to the nation as a whole. Certain people have compartmentalized right and wrong into Ethics and the Morals, but even here, a certain section has loopholes which needs to be plugged.

The final part of the heading deals with the middle ground that puts humans into conflict when determining right and wrong. All this at a time, when Irrationality and decision making are marred into the moral swamp, and also when everybody is proclaiming the end of good. Already, due to this situation, many so called Prophets are predicting the end of the world by 2060! But, leaving that aside, what determines the good and the bad?

It has been observed from the last part of the 20th century till now that lines of good and bad have been blurred. What can be the factors that contribute to this blurring? Could it be the societal orientation towards Materialism and Money? Could it be the emphasis on Individual Microcosm rather than broader good? Is selfishness overriding the path of achievement? Or is the human being in general confused about what is the aim and direction of life? All these questions will attempt answering, although it might not be a satisfactory explanation. As mentioned, this is what I see and this is my interpretation.

Nowadays, Materialism and money dominate. So much has these things impressed upon the psyche of individuals that they are lost without it. Materialism and money provide the easy way to satisfy the wants of people, and provides people with Short term happiness and security. Now, because of this short term, the broader good is not considered. These factors lead directly to the microcosm that individuals are building, and thus throws out the longer and broader future out of the window. The motto of "Living for the next DAY" has gained momentum in this century. Now, in order to consolidate this moment of security and happiness, individuals sometimes lean towards Jealousy.

The pursuit of a better life can only be achieved by either Hard work or by Deceit. In the pursuit of the latter, ethics, morals and principles are compromised, as the individual gets a house to live, clothes to wear and something to eat. There is no denying the fact that there are millions who work hard for their money, but nowadays, people twist the rules to go ahead in the Hedonistic aspect of life. Thus, grounded and simple individuals will be confused as to what is the target in life, and this is where the conflict between Good and Bad intensifies.

This certain Gray matter is one which will torment generations in this technocratic age. Technology might possibly initiate a sterile way to deal with it. Sterile for the fact that Humans themselves will probably give up to fight this battle themselves. Good and Bad can be clearly defined if the Individual's conscience is clear. If he can maintain this clarity and openness in his conscience, only then will lines not be blurred. But, for the moment, Human beings are subject to confusion for prolonged periods, as we embark on the path to understand Clearly what is Good and Bad

The final few days

Time has gone by rapidly. This period of 40 days has come and gone like a flash. Of course, this period kept me quiet busy with preparations, but in the aftermath, two things have sadly come up, and when i look at it, i am quiet depressed.

The time has now come for me to say goodbye to my friends and my family. Within a month, i will be leaving for foreign shores, for the first step of my new beginning in life. Of course, this remaining month promises to be busy, and hence the thought of relaxation will cross my mind very few times. Of course, the silver lining is that i can now spend time with my parents, and give them company for this final few weeks, after which, he weight of responsible adulthood comes crashing down on me.

Another thing that has happened in this 40 days is the fact that i have not written at all. Sporadically, i have managed o write just six articles in the month of June, and that is lower as compared to the previous months, when i have at least written more than 10. Thus, i am very rusty with thoughts and also with my thinking. Now that, i am back in Bhopal, i will get more time for writing.

I plan to write a couple of posts about what i have thought about regarding friends, family and the cities where i have spent 20 years of my life. All this will come up in the coming days, and i hope to finish all this by the mid-July. The final part of July and the beginning of August will be the part of the Wonder Years, my own interpretation of incidences that have shaped my teens. This has been inspired from the Hit serial on Zee Cafe called "The Wonder Years", where a man talks about his childhood as well as about family and the broader society at large.

It is all up to my focus in making this blog attractive with contents, for this was lacking for close to 15 days. But, i wonder, whether it will be easy, because unfortunately it is time to Say good bye.
