Do we need the VHP?

First and foremost, i will keep it real short. According to me, the VHP represents a farce that is putting the whole Hindu community in a bad light. According to me, the VHP represent, along with the Islamic fundamentalists, the gravest threat to the internal security of India.

If Sagarika Ghosh's blog on CNN-IBN is to be believed, the VHP is a Joke. She claims that pilgrims and all the Sadhus all scorned the VHP dharnas that were held during the ongoing Ardh Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. The base upon which the VHP bases itself is unstable, so the claim that they represent the grievences of the Hindu Community is false. The month of February will indeed show that why the VHP and its leaders need to be shut down, so that India can remain secure at least on the internal front.

The carnage that the VHP and its associations carried out in Godhra represented a dark period for the whole country. It has led to segregations among different communities. The Babri Masjid demolition caried out by the Hindu Fundamentalists resulted in the whole of India burning. The aftermath led to the deadly Bomb blasts in Mumbai which resulted in the death of hundreds. From the time of Independence, India has had to deal with problems regarding Pakistan and Terrorism on the Kashmir front. With the creation of the VHP, fundamentalist forces have arisen in the country, thus presenting the scenario of India being fragmented.

The VHP and the other Fundamentalist groups represent the gravest challenge to the sovereignity of India. The country is faced with religious fundamentalism, and on the other hand it is dealing with a peasent and non-religious fundamentalism in the form of the Naxals. The VHP is one reason why Nationalism and Fundamentalism is such a two edged sword. It does not benefit the common man, and in all these years, it has only led to the destabilizing of the socio-economic order in the country. So, we do not need the VHP for the betterment of the country. If the VHP is eliminated, along with other fundamental forces, only then the country shall progress.
