Yesterday, while the whole country was asleep, there has been another Naxal incident in Chattisgarh. A Group of 700 naxals attacked the CRPF camp in Bijapur, in the district of Bastar in Southern Chattisgarh. This is in a series of attacks that the Naxals have carried out in the region for a period of two-three years. While the Naxal menace has been on the increase over te past decade or so, the public continues to be wary of Islamic fundamentalists carrying out Suicide Bombings in Kashmir. The naxal threat represents an even bigger problem as they are the enemy within, and they are operating in a Red Corridor, in particular in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Eastern UP and now in some parts of West Bengal. It is about time that administrations wake up to the grave danger of Naxalism.
The Naxal Problem can be interpreted in several ways. The menace may be looked up as a purely terrorsit problem, or it can be looked as the result of the complete failure of the Agrarian System in India. The resulting failure is also making the peasents and the rural majority turn to Naxalism for echoing their plights. The second interpretation fits into the scheme of things presently, looking at the Socio-economic balance the country is in now.
The Naxals have refused to recognize the present state of India, laced with so many disparities. The Naxals, while indulging in their wrongful ways of violence, are also telling us loudly that the majority of the people are in ruins. The Naxal menace has shown us that there are two sides of the country, an Urban India and a rural Bharat. The Urban side will claim that India for them is shining and that it is booming like never before. The Rural Bharat will claim that they have to fight for their survival on a daily basis, and that they are not booming, in fact they will say that they are on the verge of Collapse.
The continuing menace of the Naxals is evidence that the Agrarian and rural system in India is on the verge of collapse. Unless and until this problem is not talen up Seriously, they will grow bolder and will indulge in large scale terrorizing of people. The Citizens and the various administrations have to come forward and ensure that there is equitable distribution of wealth, facilities alloted for the poor, as well as providing the basic universal aminities to the poor. The Agrarian system in he country needs modification and reform, so that Farmers do not commit suicide, thus lending legitamacy to the Naxals. Let us awaken to this Grave problem, and ensure that Naxal activities do not succeed. The Dynamics of Politics and thinking of individuals in today's world suggest-"Bullets and Vigilance are the two weapons by which menaces can be stopped." Let us not turn our eyes away from this problem, because it will be dangerous to our country's very foundation if we do so.
