This is a topic that is very close to my heart. From the time i finished high school, the field of Journalism has always attracted me. I now have an opportunity to pursue an MA in this very field from the UK. I am looking forward to it, especially since i am doing it in a country that is home to perhaps the greatest International News Broadcaster of all times, the BBC. It is the lure and the hope of the BBC that i carry in my heart, and step forth on a new path and on to a new life.
International Journalism is a very difficult and one of the most challenging beats a Journalist can face. The Journalists of this generation are working in a globalized and Diversified environment. This can be a unique experience, a once in a lifetime experience and most of the time horrifying. To add to this, Journalists in this beat face a lot of Isolation. Unfortunately, the Purview which defines the parameters in International Journalism is conflict. Hence, International Journalism can be seen as presenting a very negative picture of the world in whole.
Fortunately, Technological advancemens in Media and Telecommunications has made the job of International Journalists lot easier. However, along with the advancements in Technology come the reduction in Time slots. Critics have often stated that International Journalism might score high on Connectivity. But, it falls short of making people understand the true nature of the issue involved. It is because of Time constraints that International issues and Journalists alike face Negligence. It is only when the magnitude of conflict is high on numbers that people from all over the world watch with keen interest.
These are several of the flaws that I will be exposed to when i get there. The problems that have been listed here form only a very small number. To outline each and every problem would take hours. The working environment will be challenging, and at each and every step, I, the individual, will discover myself. I will discover what the fact of life is in this Global village, so aptly put forth by Marshall McLuhan.
